Masaryk University was established in Brno on 28th January 1919, an event closely connected to the founding of the Czechoslovakian Republic and to the country's founder professor Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first President of the republic. In the time of founding, Masaryk University consisted of the Faculties of Law, Medecine, Arts, and Natural Science. In our time, Masaryk University comprises nine faculties gathering more than 150 departments, institutes, and clinics, covering a broad range of academic disciplines and fields of research, and educating more than 22, 000 students.

The Faculty of Economics and Administration was established in 1990 and started its study programmes in 1991. It was the first new faculty of Masaryk University established following the democratic revolution of 1989 and created to meet to the needs of rapidly changing society.

The teaching activities of the Faculty of Economics and Administration are created around five-year Master´s programme. The curriculum is designed to provide students the opportunity to gain a deep theoretical knowledge of economics while, at the same time, providing them with practical skills and current analysis of economic trends. The study programme helps students place this grasp of economics within the broader context of the social sciences and other fields of study, with a well-round education.

The study programme is organised using a credit system (ECTS), which allows students the opportunity to take comparable courses at other schools of higher education, both in the Czech republic and Europe, and allows students greater flexibility in setting the pace of study.

The faculty offers the following study programmes:
· Economics
· Economic Policy
· Regional Development and Administration
· Finance
· Business Administration
· Public Economics and Administration
· Health Care Management
· Banking and Insurance
